Big Wave is a music producer from Richmond, VA and a proud member of Satellite Syndicate and Beatlampers. Known for his mobile “mob cart” shows at Flaskmob and Soulection events on the west coast, Big Wave combines his jazz education with a love for hip-hop and future beat music into his unique sound. Big Wave primarily utilizes hardware equipment to create his tracks including the MPC1000 and SP-404, as well as a wide array of live instruments including bass, guitar, synthesizers, woodwinds and his own voice.
The 75 Chevy EP was recorded over the summer of 2016 in a 1975 Chevy G20 Camper Van parked at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Bought for $600 dollars from an ex-hippie whose touring days were behind him, the van was converted into a mobile recording studio (although the floor-to-ceiling purple shag carpeting was left intact). Evan Morris (Big Wave) and local musician Carter Burgess recorded hours of riffs and licks that were distilled down into the four tracks on the album. This is the first release marking Big Wave’s move from sample based hip-hop into original grooves.
“There is definitely a magic about sampling how a phrase will catch your ear and inspire you to create something new, but there’s nothing like the pure expression of playing out your own grooves.”
The EP also features contributions from saxophonist Masego (Michael Saxon) and Dominique Sanders of The Xtraordinair$.
